“The Only Boundaries are the Ones We Impose on Ourselves”
The Contemporary Improvisation Track offers the students a unique opportunity to explore internal boundaries as well as external ones, without being tied to any specific style or genre, encouraging them to constantly seek new modes of expression. The versatile student body at the JAMD, in terms of both field of specialization and cultural background, and the unique environment of the school offer students endless opportunities of collaboration.
The curriculum includes: Individual instruction, an improvisation seminar, ensembles, and a variety of courses such as The Rise and Fall of the Avant-Garde, The History, Esthetics and Philosophy of Improvisation, plus electives from a wide range of graduate courses that are offered yearly.
