Dr. Ricardo FreireBorn in Brasilia, Brazil, Ricardo Freire studied clarinet at the University of Brasilia, and completed his MM and DMA at Michigan State University. His doctoral dissertation entitled “History and Development of the Clarinet in Brazil” is a landmark for everyone interested in Brazilian clarinet players. He works as professor of clarinet at Universidade de Brasília- UnB, since 1995 and has played in many countries including: Bulgaria, Colombia, France, Italy, Norway, Paraguay, Portugal, Peru, Russia, Sweden, Turkey, the USA and Venezuela.

His musical life changed when his first son was born in 1995. Parenthood came with early childhood music classes during his doctoral studies at Michigan State University. His experience as a parent was the motivation to become a teacher and to participate in GIML Seminars with Edwin Gordon, Cynthia Taggart and Beth Bolton. Returning to Brazil, he started Música para Crianças, a Community Music Program at the Universidade de Brasília. Música para Crianças existed from 2002 to 2018 and serviced 15.000 children in the period. It was designed to follow value music as a development resource in the families and it followed children from 6 months to 9 years old.
