Conservatory

The Conservatory is at part of a trio of institutions that form the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance: together with the Academy and its High School, it offers a complete educational program all the way through the graduate level.

The Oriental Music Department

This department trains instrumentalists in violin, oud, percussion, and other oriental instruments for soloists and members of artistic oriental-Arabic music ensembles. The curriculum includes theory of the Maqam, theory of Arabic music, history of Arabic music, improvisation workshops, and secondary instruments (such as the darbuka ). There is also a section of courses in Western music studies.

The Movement Department

The Movement  Department trains dancers, creative artists, and movement teachers.  It also offers its graduates the option of studying movement therapy. Students gain broad experience with a wide variety of dance styles, martial arts, movement and improvisation games, observation, thinking, and the practical use of Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation.

Graduate Program

The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance offers graduate students a unique international and multi-cultural environment for study and for personal and artistic growth.

We offer a variety of study tracks leading to the Master of Music (M.Mus.) and to the Master of Dance (M.Dance) degrees, as well as a Ph.D. program in composition in collaboration with the Hebrew University.

The Dance Faculty

The Faculty’s goal is to produce dancers, choreographers and teachers whose training has encompassed a broad range of topics related to performance, instruction and creative activity.

The combination of practical and theoretical training ensures a sophisticated and state-of-the-art environment for the advanced study of dance.

The Faculty Of The Performing Arts & Composition

The Faculty of Performing Arts & Composition comprises five departments: Piano, Wind and Percussion Instruments, String and Plucked Instruments (named for David Gritz), the Vocal Department and the Department of Music Theory, Composition & Conducting.

These Faculty departments train singers and instrumentalists for careers as soloists, orchestral and ensemble performers, accompanists and instructors.
