The curriculum in composition trains composers in the sphere of artistic music while also opening a window onto additional creative fields.  First year students study introductory courses in composition, and in the second to fourth years each student studies composition on an individual basis with one of the teachers from the faculty of the Department of Composition and Composing.  Students are given ample opportunity to perform and record their works in concerts organized by the Department, and are also performed throughout the year by Academy students from the Faculty of the Performing A

The Yitzchak Navon Community Unit seeks to share the wonderful offerings of JAMD with the wider community around us, in Jerusalem and beyond. We want to bring music and dance to places that need better access to the arts.

About the ensemble

The Academy’s recorder ensemble consists of students from the Academy’s recorder class.  The ensemble works under the direction of Prof. Michael Meltzer throughout the year, and is occasionally at the core of special projects. 

The Symphony Orchestra of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance encompasses all students in the Academy’s orchestral instruments Department, and it performs major works taken from the symphonic music repertoire.  The orchestra functions much the same way that similar musical bodies function in other major institutions around the world.
