JAMD Collaboration with the Franz Liszt Academy of Music (Budapest)
4.2.2013

On the initiative of the Israeli ambassador to Hungary, Mr. Ilan Mor, the Franz Liszt Academy of Music (Budapest) is engaging in collaboration with JAMD.The joint project will begin with the arrival in Israel of a delegation that will include nine students and two well-known professors from Budapest. Here, they will meet with around the same number of Israeli students and professors. Together, both groups will work on a chamber music program and one chamber orchestra program.

The Budapest Franz Liszt Academy is one of the most highly reputed music academies in the world. The internationally-known violist, composer and legendary founder and president of the Israeli Academy Oedoen Partos was one of its graduates; also, Ilona Vince Kraus - Professor Arieh Vardi’s piano teacher - Idit Zvi, ‘cellist Laszlo Vince – of the earliest players in the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra – and Alice and Laurent Fenibsh as well as violin teacher Ilona Vince, whose students were Shmuel Ashkenasi, Pinchas Zukerman and Shlomo Mintz. Among the Liszt Academy’s many internationally-known graduates are Béla Bártok, Zoltán Kodály and Janos Starker.

This project, bringing together classical music resources of both countries, takes on extra meaning when considering the current situation in Hungary and Europe in general.

The objective of this project is to bring about a meeting of young people from both countries, an encounter in which ensuing dialogue, not just on the musical level, will promote personal compatibility, removing negative stereotyping on both sides, with the added advantage of enabling Academy students to make acquaintance with the leading international musical scene. The final concert will take place at the Jerusalem Music Centre, Mishkenot Sha’ananim, on Friday February 15th 2013 at 12:00.

In the concert, project participants will perform movements from the following works:

Zoltan Kodaly - Serenade for 2 violins and viola Op. 12

Anton Dvorak - String quintet Op. 77 in G Major

Ernst Von Dohnanyi - Quintet nr. 1 Op.1 in C Minor for Strings and Piano

Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn Octet for strings in E Flat major Op. 20
