Morgana Petrik studied Composition and Basic Harmonic Reserach (University of Music an Performing Arts Vienna) as well as German Philology and Musicology (PhD) at the University of Vienna. Her dissertation »The Sorrows of New Music« was also published as a book by Edition Monochrom (Vienna 2008).

From 2001‒05 she worked at a lecturer in music theory and composition at the Franz Schubert Conservatory Vienna, in the last run as Chair of Department of Music Theory and Composition.

Since 2011 she has been president of the Austrian Society for Contemporary Music (OEGZM) ‒ a promoter of contemporary music. From 2015‒2019 she was also vice president of the Austrian Composers' League.

Morgana Petrik's compositional oeuvre includes song cycles, choir works, solo pieces, chamber music, works for large ensemble with and without singers and orchestral works. Her music has been performed by
Ensemble »die reihe«, Tyrolian Chamber Orchestra Innstrumenti, MAX BRAND Ensemble, Vienna Symphonic Woodwind Quintet, Koehne String Quartet, Mobilis Saxophone Quartet, Tel Aviv Saxophone Quartet, Munich Flute Trio and many more.

For »Purple Darkness«, commissioned and premiered by the renowned Austrian Ensemble »die reihe«, she was awarded with the Theodor‐Körner Prize for Composition.

The dual role of composer and concert promoter

Morgana Petrik is a composer of contemporary music and a concert promoter residing in Vienna, Austria. She will present some of her works for the concert stage and also provide an insight into her activity within the Austrian Society for Contemporary Music (OEGZM), whose president she has been since 2011. The OEGZM, founded in 1949 and active domestic and abroad, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to presenting musical creations by its members as well as by leading international composers of the 20th and 21th century in concert.
