The Young Ankor Choir - Activities and an Invitation to Join the Choir
16.1.2012

The Young Ankor Choir – for children who love to sing. Alongside its sister-choir – the Ankor Choir for children over 13 - the Young Ankor Choir has been functioning for 16 years, its 25-or-so members ranging from 8 to 13 years of age. They meet twice a week - on Sundays and Wednesdays from 16:15 to 18:30. At rehearsals, the children receive voice-training and they also take private voice lessons. Any child can join and at any time; the team of teachers helps new members learn choir repertoire, enabling them to take part in concerts as soon as possible. The choir places emphasis on social interaction; enjoyable activities are provided for the children out of rehearsal hours.

In the choir, the children sing Israeli songs, songs in different languages and light classical music.

The choir gave two performances this last Chanukah: one at a candle-lighting ceremony in the Knesset and the other at a retirement home as part of a program of performances for the community. In the past, the choir has performed at the Israel Museum, at the President’s Residence, the Jerusalem Theatre and with orchestras all over Israel.

This year, the Israeli Opera has invited the Young Ankor Choir and the Ankor Choir (older children) to take part in Bizet’s opera “Carmen”, which will be staged in June at Masada. This offer testifies to the high professional standards of the choir, these being acknowledged by the most professional performance organizations in Israel.
