The Con Moto Consort, an orchestra studio for styles and ideas, will be an expansion of the "Laboratory Orchestra" and the "Tannous-Greenberg Ensemble" (established by the most generous donations of Mr. Alaa Tannous and Mr. Sidney Greenberg). It is comprised of students from the Conducting Department, performing pieces composed by students from the Composition Department. This unique initiative started more than two years ago by Dr. Michael Klinghoffer – Dean of  the Performing Arts Faculty and Prof. Michael Wolpe the Head of the Music Theory, Composition & Conducting Department who is the artistic-pedagogic director of the Orchestra.

The consort will be comprised from students of all Academy faculties - those involved inclassical music, Arabic music and cross-disciplinary music programs. The consort will work on two programs a year, the result of collaboration between Academy students of instrumental playing, composition and conducting and students of Arabic music. Each concert will include both classical orchestral music and classical Arabic music, worked on under the guidance of Academy faculty and produced by the orchestra’s students as players, composers and conductors.

The concort will be engaged in a variety of activities: conducted rehearsals, the reading orchestration assignments and work on chosen repertoire. Its aim being to help players progress in the art of orchestral playing.

We view the consort as extending good will and the desire for coexistence and peace in these difficult and complicated times; we hope to meet its challenges, bringing the several creative and performing musicians working together to all parts of the country and its surrounding areas.
